PRINCIPAL 


Project Competencies:

Primary role is to independently design, plan, coordinate and manage small-to-large scale projects, project teams and process. Is completely involved and informed of all facets of the project(s). Represents the project or service as the primary contact for client interaction. 

Work requires the use of proficient technical competence, design ability and other advanced skills within the sector or practice, as appropriate. Recognized as specialist in a particular area with ability to work across several practice areas. 

Duties include directing and collaboratively producing quality projects that meet or exceed the firm’s quality standards regarding design intent, technical delivery, performance-driven design, and project management. Negotiates critical and controversial issues with appropriate parties involved. Resolves problems characterized by lack of precedent or source of material. 

Collaborates with other lead professionals to ensure design and documentation is in conformance with Owner's expectations 

High client contact. Serves as the main contributor during client meetings and presentations. Focus is project-related, managing a single complex project, or multiple less complex or smaller projects 

Business development responsibilities include developing leads and maintaining direct client contact. Markets continuing opportunities on current projects. Contributes to Go/No Go decision-making, leads proposal preparation process and negotiation of scope and fees on contracts. Participates in marketing interviews. 


Financial  Responsibilities:

Involved at an operational level in the management of the design studio. Manages project to satisfy requirements from budget and schedule perspective while ensuring quality delivery of work product. Understands the financial indicators used by the firm to track project performance. Monitors chargeability ratios of staff. Modifies monthly forecasts. Coordinates with project accountant and project controls manager. Responsible for maintaining established billable work ratio. 


Performance Management:

Participates in the professional development of staff through mentoring, performance management and career planning. Involved in hiring and separation decisions.
